Two Day Whale & Hippo Safari
Please note: this safari is seasonal, running only from July to November
We depart from Durban and head north through Zululand to St Lucia.
A little gem created by the warm Indian Ocean, St Lucia estuary and Isimangaliso Wetland Park, is the perfect place to explore.
Today we take a cruise on the St Lucia estuary, home to 800 hippopotamus and numerous crocodiles. The estuary is part of the world heritage site, Isimangaliso Wetland Park. Although there are no lions here, there are possibilities of seeing leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino. The birds are abundant with stilts, lapwings, moorhens and fish eagles to name a few.
During your cruise the captain will share his wealth of knowledge about the area and the hippos that you see, up close.
We will arrive back in time to have some lunch at the Deep Sea Angling Club with its beautiful setting and view of the sea and estuary
The rest of the day will be spent at your leisure with optional night Safaris
No Meals included
We start our day with a 6am whale watching cruise.
On board the twin-hulled ski boat we launch off the beach and head into the open ocean. This area is home to approximately 11000 Humpback whales. Two hours will be spent following the whales while they breach, perform tail slaps and squirt mist from their blow holes. There will be ample opportunity for photos with wild beaches and dunes as a backdrop.
Back on the beach we will have a late breakfast, some final souvenir shopping then head back, along the coast, to Durban.
